Perhaps the most persistent FBO nightmare remains the February 2010 hangar collapse at Dulles Jet Center that damaged 19 aircraft. But snowmageddon hangar collapses are rare. Far more common are the dangers of a patch of ice at the bottom of an airstair, a harried lineman speeding in a fuel truck with bad brakes, or too few wing walkers available when restacking a hangar. Does your home FBO have enough insurance? Do the FBOs that you use on the road have enough insurance? It is easy enough to ask your home FBO for a certificate of insurance to verify its coverage. It is a tougher task to know what coverage the ma and pa FBO has at the field where you just popped up on your mission itinerary.
